The Ideal Son-in-law

After a sumptuous lunch on an unusually cool day

An old man, to his son-in-law, had something to say

“I hope all’s well between you and my daughter”

“She is so good”, says the son-in-law, “that I can’t do without her”

“Please tell me more”, says the father-in-law, “I need to be sure’

The son-in-law says ’‘my wife’s love is ever pure”

Sarcastically, the old man asks, “is another grandchild coming?”

Promptly responding, the young man says “our current child is still growing’’

The old man then asks again, “did I sense family planning?”

“Sir”, the young man continues, “is it not worth doing?”

“You’re gradually becoming the ideal son-in-law”, says the old man

“Sir, you’re also the best”, says the young man 

To that, the old man says, “so, you’ve met the good and better before”

Sensing the old man’s sarcasm, again, he says, “never before”

Finally, the father-in-law says, “tell me what distinguished you among her suitors”

Then the son-in-law responds, “my true love for her and not boredom like some tutors”
